Edi Gathegi who played Laurent in ‘Twilight’ and ‘New Moon’ has been cast in the next installment of X Men, he will play the character Darwin. The movie is said to be in cinemas as early as next June, though I think we may wait longer here in the UK.
My husband has just shot a commercial with a guy who will be doing camera work on the next X Men Movie ![]()
Its a small world!
EXCLUSIVE: Edi Gathegi, who played a chillingly evil vampire in Twilight and Twilight Saga: New Moon, is joining X-Men: First Class in the role of Darwin. That character, the first bi-racial mutant (in the comic series), has the power of “reactive evolution,” which allows him to adapt to any situation or environment. Plunged underwater, he’ll grow gills, he’ll gain night vision in pitch black and his skin grows fire retardant when burned.
Gathegi, who played Laurent in the Twilight films, just wrapped production on the Paul Johansson-directed adaptation of the Ayn Rand novel Atlas Shrugged. He’s repped by Paradigm and Framework.
X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has set James McAvoy to play Xavier, Michael Fassbender to play Magneto, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult to play Beast, Jennifer Lawrence to play Mystique, Caleb Landry Jones to play Banshee and Lucas Till to play Havoc. Kevin Bacon is playing the villain.
OK so maybe due to a change of cover Twilight really kicked off over here in the UK. Could it all be down to the cover which made Twilight a success here?
I’d love to hear what you fans think about this. Also, does anyone own a copy of Twilight in these original UK version covers? I’m not sure who the pictures are meant to represent!
(I actually remember seeing these versions online before I’d read the books and thought they looked like kids books!)

According to the Book Seller Blog:
Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, the first instalment in the US novelist’s hugely popular dark romance series of the same name, has become only the 13th novel to sell more than two million copies in the UK since the turn century.
Stephenie Meyer follows in the footsteps of J K Rowling, Dan Brown and Mark Haddon – the only other authors to have achieved the two-million-in-the-21st-century feat.
Last week, the book sold 16,672 copies in the UK, taking its total sales to date to 2,005,609. Just over £9.7m has been spent on the book since it was first published in the UK in 2006 – a year in which it sold just 1,684 copies, according to Nielsen BookScan data.”
For those of you who didn’t discover Twilight until more recently, Twilight struggled to find an audience in the UK if for no other reason the UK distributor saddled it with a now replaced terrible cover and then came up with an arguably even more dreadful cover for New Moon (seen above). At the time, it was our perception that they seemed hell bent on marketing it as dark vampire lit. As the article states, the book took off once it gained fame in the US, was repackaged in the US format after Eclipse, and not marketed as a dark, gothic, tale.
Incidentally, if you have the book with one of those covers and it’s in good shape, it stand potential as a collectors item particularly if you can get a Stephenie Meyer signature in it.

OK, so this has me having a ewwww moment, but I like the science lol!!
One of the most chastised elements in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga is the fact that her tough-as-nails vampires sparkle. Perhaps the masses could get over the lack of pointy teeth, and maybe even the ability to go out in the sunlight, but to sparkle when the sun hits? Blasphemy! Anne Rice making her old vamps have papery skin is one thing, but likening a killer’s visage with a sparkly diamond is another thing entirely. Dracula is rolling over in his dirt-lined crypt!
But there might be solid science behind the whys. You’ve just got to stomach this one fact: Vampires are highly evolved insects.
I Like a Little Science in My Fiction has written an excellent post that explains how and why Meyer’s vampires sparkle. It all comes down to their many buggy comparisons. The theory starts with the knowledge that most of the hematophages in the world — a fancy word for blood eaters — are bugs. Like fleas, vampires must feed before they reproduce, which triggers a painful metamorphosis. Like butterflies, vamps can remember things from their lowly caterpillar/human days. They’re cold-blooded, and have a hard exoskeleton instead of soft, pliable skin. Their speed is like that of the super-fast Tiger Beetle, strong like the horned dung beetle, and have eyes that put our human versions to shame.
But finally — why do they sparkle? The site posits that vampires must be like butterflies — sometimes known to feed on blood — who have tiny iridescent scales.
Yes, it’s silly, but it also makes a whole lot of sense. So, next time you pull a Bella and gush over Edward’s sparkling face and divine beauty, keep in mind — you might be lusting for a highly evolved insect.

Anna Kendrick looks absolutely stunning at the LA Premiere of ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs The World’. Her daring outfit of a ‘Little Blue Dress’ and gorgeous yellow shoes just looks fabulous.

It took a long time for retailers in the UK to cotton on to the Twilight phenomenom. Two years ago you’d have been lucky to buy a Team Edward t’shirt yet now, everything is available from pens, bedding, jewellery, clothing and make-up. There are only a few retailers that sell on the High Street amongst them, HMV, Claires Accessories and Clinton Cards, the latter being the most recent addition with it’s range of birthday and celebration cards. It was shopping in this store that made me realise the difference in price between the retailers. I have picked one item to compare because it’s the one thing I thought I might purchase, the iPhone cover. I was shocked when I saw that the Eclipse themed covers are selling for an astronomically high price of £22.99 in Claire’s yet Clinton’s are selling the exact same item for £14.99. Amazon have an RRP of £19.99 on this item although it is being sold for £14.99 also. Another item to shop around for it the Eclipse fleece blanket. Amazon are charging £14.99 while Play.com are selling for £9.99 so it’s worth shopping around!
