Part 5 – The Finale

It was time to start our journey back to Sea-Tac airport, but not without seeing three more locations on the way!

Our first location we stopped at, was Multnomah Falls in Oregon.  This is the waterfall you see in the background, in Twilight, when Edward and Bella are walking across the field to play baseball!

After checking out the lovely little gift shop, just by the car park for Multnomah, we got some penny’s pressed with Multnomah Falls on and they looked awesome!

We then headed on to Cascade Locks, the filming location for The Bridge Of The Gods, which is the bridge that Charlie & Bella drive over at the beginning of Twilight! The bridge is extremely epic and we drove over it to start our journey to our final movie location!

Twilight, Cascade Locks, OR - Bridge Of The Gods 2

After an hour or so, we reached our final location of the holiday- which was a view over the Columbia River, on the Washington state side. This is the view we see, when Edward and Bella are up in the tree, in Twilight. When I got out the car and walked over to the look-out to take some photographs, I literally said to myself, “things like this, just don’t exist!” It was beyond beautiful!

Twilight, Columbia River - Edward/Bella Tree View 2

I then dragged myself away from the view and got back into the car and we headed straight for Sea-Tac airport. I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life and I am irrevocably grateful for every moment. I would also like to say a very, very special thank you to our friend, Susie, because none of this would’ve happened if it wasn’t for you; I am forever in your debt.

Thank you, for reading and for allowing me to share my experiences made, with you and I truly hope you get to make your own memories there, in the future.

“Forever.”

Part 4

Our next stops of the day were to be Corbett, Portland & St Helens!

In Corbett, was The View Point Inn, which sadly got really badly fire damaged in 2011. But going there, you can still see where the Monte Carlo arch would’ve been set up and the doors Edward & Bella walk through, to go inside.

After leaving Corbett, we headed down to Portland to go and see the real Cullen house! Just like when seeing the high school in Kalama, you just can’t believe you’re standing in front of it!

Twilight, Portland, OR - Cullen House 1

From the Cullen house, we stopped off at Starbucks to get a drink, then headed straight for St Helens, OR! Once we reached St Helens, we visited the Swan household which was used as a filming location in Twilight. When driving up the road, I recognized it straight away from where Billy Black drives past and glares at Edward!

From the Swan house, we headed into the town where we parked up and went to look at the Thunderbird & Whale bookstore and alley way, where Bella goes to buy the book about The Cold Ones! It felt really surreal walking down the alleyway and seeing the little building used for the bookstore at the end of it!

Twilight, St Helens, OR - Thunderbird & Whale Bookstore 2

Right next to the store (exactly like in the film) is the car park where Edward comes to save Bella from the group of guys harassing her. The ‘Worthington’ sign, on the wall in the background of the photograph, is also visible in the film!

Twilight, St Helens, OR - Thunderbird & Whale Parking Lot

We then walked back down, onto the main high street, to go and visit the hairdressers called ‘Cuts’. This was transformed into the Port Angeles dress store, which Bella goes to, along with Angela & Jess, in Twilight! The store owner kindly let me come inside and take a few photographs of where the set-up would’ve been!

After seeing ‘Cuts’, we then drove a little further down the main street, until we reached the house that was set up as ‘The Bloated Toad’ restaurant, for Bella & Edward’s first date!

We then headed back to Clackamas, where we were staying and spent the following day at Mt Hood Skibowl/Adventure Park- which we’d recommend for a short break from travelling, as it was a lot of fun! (Click here to visit their website.)

It was time to start our journey back to Sea-Tac airport, but not without seeing three more locations on the way!

Part 3

We still had plenty more to see! Next stop, Kalama, WA & Clackamas, OR!

After leaving Forks, we drove for a few hours and eventually reached Kalama- the filming location for Forks High School!

Kalama, WA - Forks High School 2

This was, (and I think Dani may agree with me!), one of the best filming locations we had visited. This is because, as soon as you see it, your breath catches because you can’t believe you’re actually standing right there. It just felt truly unbelievable to be standing in front of such an iconic piece of the saga’s films!

Twilight, Kalama, WA - Forks High School

Below, are photographs of filming locations on the school site that were filmed, during Twilight. You can see the walkway, where Eric introduces himself to Bella. The small hill towards the forrest where Bella goes to confront Edward and also the parking lot! The school has also marked the name ‘Bella’ into one of their parking spots, where her truck was parked for filming, which we thought was pretty awesome!!

After seeing the school, we then got back in the car and drove a few more hours to reach Clackamas in Oregon, where we’d be staying for a few days. It was dark by the time we reached Oregon that same night, so we slept off the car journeys, to then start a fresh in the morning! The first place we went to, was Carver Cafe for some breakfast. We sat right next to the table where Charlie & Bella would’ve sat and the food was great!

Following breakfast, we headed to the Stone Cliff Inn, just a short drive away – which is where they filmed the famous Lion & Lamb scenes, where Edward reveals what he is, to Bella.

Twilight, Clackamas, OR - Stone Cliff Inn 1

The filming locations, are the photos shown below. Top left & middle: “And so the Lion fell in love with the Lamb.” Top right: “I’m designed to kill.” Bottom left & middle: “As if you could outrun me!” Bottom right: “This is why we don’t show ourselves in the sunlight.”

Our next stops of the day were to be Corbett, Portland & St Helens!

Part 2

We then started our journey, from Canada, down to Port Angeles… And after several hours in the car, a ferry ride, then several more hours in the car… we arrived!

Port Angeles, WA

This is where our ‘book tour’ of the Twilight saga officially started. There were three main locations to visit in Port Angeles, being the book store, Bella Italia and the movie theatre!

After walking around the lovely town, we got back in the car and started the hour and a half journey to the home of Twilight, Forks! Along the way, we passed Cresent Lake – although not a twilight location, we’d recommend visiting it anyway, because it was just that beautiful!

And then excitement filled the car as I saw a sign in the distance and turned to Susie and said, “…Is that what I think it is?” and Susie nodded! And it sure was!

Forks, WA

We were in the Forks, WA, area for almost two days and got started straight away! We stopped by Thriftway (Bella’s work place), Sully’s Burgers (the diner where Bella & Charlie would eat), Forks Police Station, Forks Community Hospital, Forks High School and the Visitor Information Centre! Outside the Visitor Information Centre were two of Bella’s trucks; the book version and the movie version!

Also in Forks, we went to visit the ‘book’ versions of the Cullen & Swan household!

We were lucky enough, that same evening, with Susie’s friends who lived in Forks (and kindly let us stay with them!), to have a bonfire down on First Beach, La Push – just like in the book! It truly was beautiful and we’re very thankful! It was too dark that same evening to explore, so we left La Push to the following day.

La Push, WA - Sign

In La Push, we stopped by the Treaty Line, Jacob & Billy Black’s house and also popped back down to First Beach!

So, now our ‘book tour’ was over… But we still had plenty more to see! Next stop, Kalama, WA & Oregon!

Stephenie Meyer Lists her Favourite Romance Films!

stephenieredheadshot

Last week, Stephenie Meyer’s novels hit the big screens again with the screen debut of “The Host” A science-fiction romance set in a post-apocalyptic reality. The Daily Beast asked Ms Meyer for her top ten romantic films, and here they are!

Penelope (2006)

James McAvoy—as if you need any more descriptor other than just… James McAvoy. If you haven’t seen it, see it. It’s such a lovely fairytale because it feels like a children’s story in some ways. It seems almost illustrated.

(500) Days of Summer (2009)

(500) Days of Summer is this completely novel way of doing things. Having become more involved with filmmakers, the creation and the way the story is told is probably more fascinating to me than it would have been before.

Notting Hill (1999)

I’ve always been a sucker for Notting Hill, I don’t know why, and I don’t know why I can’t change the channel when that movie comes on. It’s so cute. It was one of my last favorite romantic comedies for a long time.

Sense and Sensibility (1995)

The reason why I love this film so much is because it’s beautiful to look at, and you feel like the whole story is told; very few things are missing. It’s very real and doesn’t feel like it’s jammed together or shortened in any way.

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

I really liked Crazy Stupid Love. I mean … Ryan Gosling. And Emma Stone, who is going to be just … everything. She’s kind of there already, isn’t she? Anything she’s in is exciting because her performances are always really, really good. To be able to do comedy and drama too, that’s a gift.

Find the rest of Stephenie Meyer’s top ten romance choices here!

UK Twilight Meet Stephenie Meyer at The Host Signing

SM SIGNING

It’s been almost 6 years since Stephenie Meyer came to the UK to do a book signing so we weren’t about to miss this opportunity to meet the woman who gave so many of us a common interest and lead me to give the fans in the UK the forum to talk about the world she created.

A few fans travelling from further reaches like Ireland arrived bright and early to be at the front of the queue while others caught 40 winks on over night busses to guarantee they got to meet Stephenie. Arriving shortly after 11am, myself and admins G and Alicia were surprised to find ourselves in the first 40 in the queue. We had anticipated that many more fans would come along later in the day but turn out was far less than expected. This meant that some of us chose to go back through to get more books signed for friends who couldn’t make it and I’m sure there will be some very happy mums come Mothers Day on Sunday!

I can’t say I remember exactly what I said but I think I thanked her for coming, that I was looking forward to seeing The Host and that meeting her was 8 years in the waiting and we had come full circle. An din the words of one fan Hana ~ Today my dream came true!

We have a few photos from the event that we will post up tomorrow but for now you will have to put up with my ugly mug. In the meantime, some of the fans (including me) were spoken to by the UK press and here’s a link to one story from THe Independent.
